SpaceX to Build 16.8 Billion USD Chip Plant in Texas, Create Over 3 Thousand Jobs

Aerospace giant SpaceX and electric car manufacturer Tesla are investing 16.8 billion USD to construct ‘Terafab,’ an advanced AI semiconductor complex in Texas, with the aim of closing a growing deficit in the world’s chip supply, according to the official statements.

According to a statement released on Thursday by SpaceX on its website, the first phase of the vertically integrated, 100 million square foot facility in Grimes County, Texas, will generate at least 3,000 well paying jobs for engineers, technicians and plant operators. Future expansion phases are anticipated to increase total investment significantly.

SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk stated in the statement that “The Terafab is bringing cutting edge manufacturing to America, creating thousands of high paying jobs in the Lone Star State and enabling us to produce AI chips at scale for use on Earth and in space,” reports PTI.

Following SpaceX’s acquisition of the AI startup xAI earlier this year, Musk is expanding the integration of artificial intelligence initiatives throughout his companies, which coincides with the expansion, according to media reports.
