Big Tech Giant Amazon to Lay Off 30,000 Workers in the Coming Weeks
Amazon is planning major job cuts in the coming weeks, with reports indicating that the company will reduce its corporate workforce by nearly 30,000 employees. The layoffs are expected to affect white-collar workers across several divisions, including Amazon Web Services (AWS).
According to a Reuters report dated January 22, citing two sources, the American tech and e-commerce giant plans to cut thousands of corporate jobs in the coming weeks, impacting nearly 30,000 employees.
These layoffs, among the largest in the company’s history, are likely to affect white-collar roles across multiple divisions, including AWS, the People Experience and Technology unit (human resources), Prime Video, and retail, the report said. The sources added that the plans could still change.
In October last year, Amazon laid off 14,000 white-collar employees, roughly half of its 30,000 target, and is expected to carry out further cuts this year as well, according to the sources.
