Shreyas Lyer Replaces Suryakumar Yadav as India’s T20I Captain, Tilak Verma Named Deputy
Shreyas Iyer will replace Suryakumar Yadav as India’s new T20 skipper when the national selection panel meets here on Saturday to finalize teams for the white ball tour of the UK and the Asian Games in Japan, according to the reports.
Sources claim that the selection committee, head coach Gautam Gambhir and BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar have all agreed on Tilak Varma serving as vice captain and Iyer taking over as T20I captain.
Sources within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) state that Tilak Verma will serve as Shreyas Iyer’s deputy, who will take Suryakumar Yadav’s place as captain of the senior men’s squad in Twenty20 Internationals (T20I), reported by ANI.
Tour Details
The UK tour will include two T20 Internationals versus Ireland on June 26 and 28 in Belfast, followed by a tour to England for five T20Is and three ODIs beginning on July 1. The squad is being announced early to meet the deadlines set by the event organizers for the Asian Games, which will be held in Aichi-Nagoya in September and October, as per the reports.
As per the recent reports, despite the event colliding with a two way white ball home series against the West Indies at the same time, the BCCI will field its strongest possible team.
