PV Sindhu’s Masterclass: Smooth Striding Seals Win Over World No. 6 at China Masters

Indian badminton star PV Sindhu delivered a commanding performance at the China Masters Super 750, overpowering Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong, who is ranked No. 6 in the world, 21‑15, 21‑15. In a match lasting just 41 minutes, Sindhu’s fluid footwork, sharp placement and tactical maturity marked a strong return to form.

At No. 14, Sindhu looked assured from the opening rallies. Her attacking cross‑court smashes and steady defense disrupted Chochuwong’s rhythm. With coach Irwansyah helping refine her movement especially along the flanks and in her recovery after lunges, Sindhu limited the Thai’s opportunities to impose her characteristic deceptive shots.

What made this victory especially significant was its psychological weight. Sindhu had not defeated Chochuwong in nearly three years, with losses at major tournaments like the Indonesia Open. Breaking that streak in straight games signals a resurgence. a mix of confidence, match‑sharpness and tactical adjustments.

Post‑match, Sindhu was both satisfied and mindful. She noted the importance of staying alert throughout, especially in second games where opponents often push. She also spoke about the challenges of dealing with environmental factors like drift from air‑conditioning, which can affect shot control.

Looking ahead, Sindhu will face a much tougher test in the quarterfinals: either World No. 1 An Se‑Young of Korea or Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark. Even so, this win adds to her top‑10 victories this season, and reinforces that she remains one of India’s most formidable players on the world stage.
