The Olympic Winter Games 2026 kicked off on February 6. The games will conclude on 22, February. Commonly known as Milano Cortina 2026, the event is hosted by the cities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. Amidst the competition, what’s buzzing is the engagement of two rivals. Former Team USA Olympic figure skater Jean-Luc Baker proposed to Spanish ice dancer Olivia Smart in Milan. The couple took to Instagram to share the happy news with fans and the audience worldwide.

US Figure Skater Jean-Luc Baker Gets Engaged to Spanish Rival Olivia Smart 

Jean-Luc Baker got on his knees and proposed to Olivia Smart on the special occasion of Valentine’s Day. The couple later shared the news on social media. The proposal took place in Milan while Smart was competing at the Games with her ice dance partner, Tim Dieck. 

Earlier, Smart and Baker competed against each other on the international stage, representing Spain and the United States. They competed against each other at the 2022 Winter Olympics as well as at several World Championships. At the 2026 Olympic Winter Games, Smart and Dieck finished ninth in the ice dance competition. Smart has gained recognition over the years with her ice dancing skills. Tracing back to the 2018 Winter Olympics, Baker had bagged a bronze medal. This year, he attended the Games as a spectator after suffering from injuries and ending his competitive career in 2023. 

Jean-Luc Baker and Olivia Smart shared a close friendship for around 12 years. In 2022, the duo also competed against each other at the Beijing Winter Olympics. Reportedly, Baker confessed his feelings for Olivia, but she was allegedly in a relationship with someone else. Moreover, Jean had earlier mentioned that he did not want to be a spectator at Olivia’s wedding, following which he decided to open up about his feelings for Olivia. Since 2024, they have been romantically linked to each other. Their sudden relationship announcement in 2026 took everyone by surprise. Now, netizens and sports fanatics await their wedding!
