In the opening match against Sri Lanka today, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant achieved the unusual feat of scoring 100 sixes in Test cricket, becoming the fourth player in the world and the first Indian to do so. Pant also become the fastest to 100 maximums in just his 51st game, while former England skipper Ben Stokes had reached the milestone in his 82nd Test.

Stokes is in front of Pant with 138 sixes, Brendon McCullum of New Zealand with 107 sixes and Adam Gilchrist of Australia with 100 sixes. Before the game started, Pant had 97 sixes and in the first innings matched Chris Gayle’s record of 98 sixes. With 91 sixes each, Rohit Sharma and Virender Sehwag are tied for second place among Indians on the list.

As stated above, along with Adam Gilchrist, Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes, Pant became only the fourth player in Test cricket history to hit 100 sixes, putting him on an exclusive list. To say in exact words, in terms of deliveries faced, Pant is also the fastest player to achieve this feat.

Gilchrist was the first and fastest to 100 Test sixes in 6,578 deliveries and the Delhi batsman surpassed him by achieving the feat in only 4,918 deliveries. Brendon McCullum required 9,756 deliveries to hit his 100th Test six, while Ben Stokes achieved the same milestone in 9,042 deliveries.
