The Congress-led UDF is set for a comeback in Kerala after a decade-long hiatus. According to Election Commission data, the UDF has won 102 seats in the 140-member Assembly, while the CPI(M)-headed LDF has won 35 seats in the Kerala Election Results 2026. Pinarayi Vijayan also resigned as Kerala Chief Minister following the LDF’s crushing defeat, bringing an end to a decade-long tenure in office.

According to a Raj Bhavan statement, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar accepted the resignation and requested Pinarayi Vijayan to continue as caretaker chief minister until alternative arrangements are made.
The BJP made a breakthrough in Kerala by winning three seats, opening its account in the Assembly after a prolonged electoral drought. The Congress-led UDF has swept the Kerala Assembly polls with a historic win. CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan stated that the LDF would examine the reasons and take corrective measures. He further added that the LDF will evaluate and study the defeat, after which required corrections will be made. He expects the support of the people for it.
