Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has organized elections for 29 municipal corporations on Thursday, January 15, 2026. After nearly three years of delay, Mumbai is all buckled up for the big day. Voters across Greater Mumbai’s 227 wards will cast their ballots in the polling station from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm IST. To encourage maximum participation, January 15 has been officially declared a public holiday.
Electors are required to present a voter photo ID card or any of 12 identity proofs approved by the State Election Commission to cast their vote. Take a look at the alternative voter ID documents.

A total of 1700 candidates are in the fray, including 878 women and 822 men. Talking about electors, 55,15,707 men, 48,26,509 women, and 1,099 others, are eligible to cast their vote. On Tuesday, Municipal Commissioner and District Election Officer Bhushan Gagrani stated that voters must present their photo identity card at the polling station. The vote counting will start at 10:00 am on Friday, January 16, 2026, with results expected by the end of the day.
