Assam Election Results 2026: State Unit Chief, Gaurav Gogoi, Trails in Jorhat Assembly Constituency
On May 4, the counting of Assam Election Results 2026 is being held at 40 centres across all 35 districts. The Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma-helmed BJP has predicted close to 100 seats for the NDA, the Gaurav Gogoi-led Congress for the Asom Sonmilito Morcha (ASM) to return to power after 10 years. Gogoi, the sitting MP of Jorhat, polled 46,257 votes, while BJP’S Hitendra Nath Goswami secured 69,439 votes, retaining the seat for a third consecutive term.

According to the Election Commission, BJP candidate Jiban Gogoi on Monday won the newly created Sissibargaon constituency in Assam by a margin of 40,593 votes. Sissibargaon constituency in Dhemaji district was created after the 2023 delimitation exercise. Gogoi’s nearest rival Dulal Chandra Boruah of the Raijor Dal bagged 35,165 votes.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is leading against Congress candidate Bidisha Neog by 55,035 votes in Jalukbari, after the conclusion of 12 out of 18 rounds of counting. BJP candidate Dr. Ranoj Pegu wins Dhemaji by a margin of 32,229 votes. Mr. Pegu polled a total of 83,649 votes against Congress’ Sailen Sonowal (51,420 votes).
If the exit polls are to be believed, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is heading for a historic third consecutive term. Projections from major agencies like Axis My India and Today’s Chanakya suggest a comfortable majority for the saffron alliance.
