Weather Update: IMD Issues Orange Alert as Clouds Hover Over the Region of Delhi-NCR
The weather has shifted recently. Unseasonal rains will occur in many areas. The Delhi-NCR region has received an orange alert from the IMD. The temperature has also undergone notable variations. Extreme heat is currently affecting many areas. Over the last two days, the air quality in Mumbai has gotten better.
The day after, dust storms, thunder, lightning and rain brought respite to Delhi and the surrounding area. Thursday saw continuous cloudy skies and temperatures in the range of 19 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the city, with rains and winds disrupting normal life and impacting electric grids across Delhi and the NCR. Until Friday, the weather is predicted to stay the same.
Due to adverse weather conditions, at least 16 flights were redirected to other cities from Indira Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday night. Residents were instructed to remain inside and stay away from windows, electrical poles and power lines. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a similar warning about leaving any items unsecured.
This was the second occurrence of this type of weather in the last four days, which helped to lower the temperature. The warning was distributed to every State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) by the weather agency. There is still a yellow alert in effect for the next two days, predicting more rain and thunderstorms.
