Prerna Dalal recently witnessed an uncommon natural spectacle over Ladakh as she passed through the area and observed vivid, rainbow like clouds. Dalal uploaded a number of photos on Instagram that captivated viewers after capturing the unusual view. Against the rough mountain landscape of Ladakh, the pictures reveal patches of clouds sparkling in exquisite hues of pink, green, blue and violet.
It almost seemed as if the sky had been painted with soft pastel strokes because of the colors. Cloud iridescence, also known as rainbow clouds, is the phenomenon captured in the photos. Rainbow like colors are produced when light is diffracted as a result of the interaction between sunshine and minute water droplets or ice crystals in clouds.
Even though cloud iridescence is a natural occurrence, it is somewhat uncommon and can be ephemeral, making sightings particularly impressive. The high elevation and clear air of Ladakh might provide good conditions for seeing rare atmospheric occurrences, according to the post.
