A recent story of a social media user is getting viral. They said that they spent one night living in a chawl in Mumbai and, after the realization of living there and facing difficulties, they shared that they will never complain in life ever. The story is now surfacing fast and people are praising the journey they have shared.

The user has shared the post on Reddit with the title, “I stayed in a chawl for 1 night and now I will never complain about my life.” The person started thinking about the common comforts they had always taken for granted after spending one night in a Mumbai chawl. The experience gave them a peek into a really different way of living, from having to wait in line to use a toilet to sharing a little room with a number of people together.

They disclosed the experience, saying that one family had requested them to spend the night with them since it was already late when they went to see a distant relative who resides in chawl. According to the user, they were startled by the chawl’s living conditions and said the morning was more difficult for them than the night.

“I was shocked to see how people even stay there. 5 to 6 people sleep in one small room, no privacy, lots of noise around. The worst part of it all was when I woke up in the morning and had to stand in line for the toilet. There were 10 people ahead of me, each carrying their own bucket. I couldn’t gather courage to stand in line and go to the toilet, so I just skipped it,” the user mentioned.

They noted that their family and other residents appeared satisfied with their lives in the chawl despite the circumstances. They often spoke about residents’ strong sense of community, calling each other ‘like a family’ and saying individuals frequently aid one another, they stated.

After returning home, they stated that the experience caused them to consider their own life very differently, even though their family were pleased. “I felt so blessed when I used the restroom at my apartment. I’ll never take these little things for granted again,” they said.
