Vikram-1: India’s First Private Orbital Rocket, Set To Launch By August 4
Vikram-1, India’s first private orbital rocket, is set to launch next month, that is, by August 4. According to the reports, the fully stacked Vikram-1 launch vehicle from Skyroot Aerospace, the unicorn valued at over 1.1 billion USD, was unveiled at Sriharikota’s Satish Dhawan Space Centre, India’s spaceport. The country’s first orbital rocket that was privately designed and built.
The seven story tall orbital rocket, which is named after Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, the founder of India’s space program, symbolizes a few years of technological innovation and the increasing confidence of India’s developing private space industry.
Subject to final testing, weather conditions and regulatory clearances, the launch vehicle is expected to fly between July 12 and August 4, according to the company, as per reports.

Vikram-1 has been designed to put satellites weighing up to 350 kg into Low Earth Orbit and is seven stories high, as mentioned before. The rocket seeks to achieve a 60 degree inclined orbit roughly 450 kilometers above the Earth during its initial flight. The launch vehicle has been constructed using an all carbon composite construction, making it strong enough to resist the fierce forces of launch while remaining lightweight.
