The number of passengers traveling from Vande Bharat is increasing day by day. Now, the Vande Bharat Sleeper train is going to launch soon. A water test for stability has been conducted, where the ride successfully reached 180 kmph, conforming the stability.
On Tuesday, December 30, the Vande Bharat sleeper train reached a maximum speed of over 180 kmph during a trial run on the Indian Railway’s Kota-Nagda section. To demonstrate the train’s stability and technological capabilities, Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister of Railways, posted a video of a speed test on his X account, showing the water test.
“Commissioner Railway Safety examined the Vande Bharat Sleeper today. Between the Kota Nagda section, it travelled at a speed of 180 kmph. Furthermore, Vaishnaw said in the post, “our own water test demonstrated the technological features of this new generation train.”
The railway minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, stated in mid-November that this train would be introduced in December 2025.
The Indian Railways is extending its locally produced Vande Bharat fleet, which is capable of speeds of 160-180 kmph, throughout important routes. According to railway authorities, this strategy seeks to lessen reliance on traditional long-distance travel by modernizing rail infrastructure, enhancing passenger comfort, and increasing economic connectivity, as per the media reports.

There are currently 164 semi-high speed Vande Bharat chair trains in service throughout the Indian Railways network, with the Vande Bharat sleeper scheduled to debut early next year.
The contract for manufacturing 80 sleeper models has also been given to a consortium made up of Titagarh Rail Systems and BHEL. In addition, ICF is developing its own sleeper model of the Vande Bharat train.
