A passenger, while traveling on the Vande Bharat train, scrutinized food and found dead insect inside the Dal Chawal. This has led IRCTC to take immediate action. The IRCTC has fined Rs. 10 lakh to the vendor. This dish is healthy and provides protein, but after discovering unhygienic practice, the netizens came into disappointment.

The passenger said that there were at least two similar instances in his coach, causing everyone to stop eating. The images and videos shared on X seem to show a Dal Chawal meal box with a ‘cockroach-like’ bug inside. The passenger requested the relevant authorities to ‘please raid’ the vendor.

Tagging the concerned authorities, he wrote, “Just one request to the authorities, please raid them. I am certain the food is not being prepared as per FSSAI standards. When found guilty, their license should be cancelled. Hope this doesn’t get settled through bribes.”

In response to the incident, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) stated that a hefty penalty of Rs. 10 lakh along with a termination notice of the contract is being issued to the service provider and also the kitchen has been sealed for deep cleaning and pest control.

“The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” IRCTC continued. The issue has been handled with the highest seriousness and hygiene and passenger safety remain our top priority, says IRCTC.
