The good news is that the first flock of flamingos, the lovely pink birds, have made their way to Thane Creek. The pink season marks the beginning of this. The migration of flamingos occurs annually. The first group of flamingos has landed in Navi Mumbai and Mumbai. Because thousands of these gorgeous pink birds are expected to congregate throughout the city, locals are excited about this time. Because of the protracted monsoon, their arrival this year was somewhat delayed. The birds soar over streams and lakes.

Mrugank Prabhu, a senior bird researcher, reported on Monday that the first group of flamingos of the season had landed in the Thane creek area. Prabhu stated that 300 greater flamingos have already been seen in Thane Creek and early flyovers have been seen at DPS lake in Nerul. Prashant Bahadure, the Range Forest Officer at the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary, confirmed that the numbers are still modest but that bigger flocks are anticipated soon, according to the PTI.

The presence of flamingos is more than just a pretty sight. By consuming algae, plankton and tiny invertebrates, they contribute to regulating nutrient levels and preventing harmful algal blooms. These pink arrivals are not just a seasonal draw, but also vital allies in preserving Mumbai’s endangered mudflats and streams, according to environmentalists, as also highlighted by several media reports.

Oxygen levels in the water rise as a result of the continuous churning of the mudflats, which helps aquatic flora and fauna. These birds come from Europe and South Africa.
