Rupee Rises 23 Paise to 96.65 Against US Dollar in Early Trade
The rupee gained 23 paise to 96.65 versus the US dollar in early trade on Friday, owing to a moderate drop in the US dollar and likely intervention by the RBI.
After US President Donald Trump announced that he will not restart Iran strikes before the midterm elections, the rupee opened higher this morning, according to forex traders, with the dollar index falling to 102 levels and Brent falling to USD 103.39 per barrel.
According to them, foreign cash outflows continue to put pressure on the domestic currency, which is still facing increasing geopolitical pressure. The dollar index, which measures the strength of the greenback against a basket of six currencies, was marginally lower by 0.10 percent at 102.03.
