A complaint has been filed with the Rapido and Ola cab companies by the RTO for operating a bike-taxi without a permit, as per the reports. The FIR has been filed. The companies are operating bike-taxis without a licence.
Mumbai police have opened a case against Ola’s directors for purportedly running an unlicensed bike-taxi service in the city. The FIR accuses the firm of violating the Motor Vehicles Act and BNS regulations, claiming unlawful operations, safety standards violations and failure to verify the driver’s credentials, all while making financial gains, according to an RTO complaint.
Additionally, the FIR claimed that both firms were endangering passengers’ lives by operating unlawful two-wheeled transportation. Also, as mentioned above, it was observed that the businesses did not adhere to safety standards and did not check the drivers’ character certificates.
The Amboli police say the case was filed after authorities noticed that Ola and Rapido were facilitating the transit of passengers without the necessary permits. According to the Amboli Police, these two businesses have been illegally facilitating passenger transportation and generating revenue by operating two-wheeler taxi services inside the city limits using their mobile apps without the necessary permissions. According to the complaint, these actions enabled both businesses to gain from providing unlicensed passenger services.
Any violation of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, which prohibits private cars from carrying passengers for commercial purposes, is subject to legal action. There was an update a few months ago that the companies have received the licence. After this report, a new debate has been sparked about the legitimacy.
