Railway Reforms: No Refund after Cancellation of Confirmed Ticket Less Than 8 Hours Before Departure
Now the new reforms have been announced for the railway. For now, there are also some changes made to the refund policies. The Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Tuesday that Indian Railways is getting ready to introduce a number of changes intended to enhance operations, ticketing transparency and freight transportation.
As part of a larger plan to upgrade the railway system and improve passenger amenities, Vaishnaw stated at a press conference that about five significant reforms would be implemented soon.
A significant change was revealed regarding ticket cancellations. Confirmed train tickets that are cancelled less than eight hours prior to departure will no longer be eligible for refunds. The purpose of the action is to increase seat availability for other travellers and reduce last minute cancellations.
Up until 30 minutes before departure, passengers will now have the option of changing their boarding location and upgrading their trip class. Previously, such modifications were only allowed prior to the creation of the reservation table.
