Ten years have passed since the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) was introduced on this day in 2016, changing the landscape of digital payments in India. With eleven countries now operating the system, UPI’s unparalleled scope and dependability have gained international acclaim.

One of the most successful cornerstones of India’s digital public infrastructure, it has grown to offer a real time, interoperable payment platform. The UPI has seen a nearly 13,000 fold increase in transaction volume, according to reports.
