Chief Minister Nitish Kumar led the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to a huge win. The alliance has won 202 seats in the Bihar election 2025. After Maharashtra last year, the BJP has become the largest party in Bihar. In November 2024, Mahayuti crossed 200 seats and after this historic win, in Bihar, the NDA has shown its landsliding victory.

The NDA gained a three-quarters majority in the 243-member Assembly by winning 202 seats, according to the most recent Election Commission of India data. The BJP received 89 seats, the JD(U) 85, the LJP (RV) 19, the HAM (S) 5, and the RLM 4. The Mahagathbandhan, the opposition party, experienced a complete fall and only won 35 seats.

According to the reports, there were far more women voters in several districts than there were men. The NDA gained a solid and devoted female voting base in part due to Nitish Kumar’s persistent emphasis on women’s safety and opportunities. Voters were impacted by the cash assistance and welfare programs. Let’s fathom the 5 key reasons behind this election which led to the NDA winning by historic numbers.

The combination of successful communication, welfare distribution, calculated alliances, and Nitish Kumar’s political tenacity has resulted in what appears to be one of the most decisive electoral victories in recent Bihar history, solidifying the NDA’s dominance.

1) Welfare Schemes and Women Voter Turnout: The NDA focused on proving the welfare push. This led the alliance to win the election, which is very clear. Women opted to put their faith in Nitish Kumar’s promised Rs 10,000 deposit in their bank accounts rather than believe Tejashwi Yadav’s promise of Rs 2,500 per month if he won, demonstrating how Nitish Kumar-led government’s choice to raise the old-age pension for 12 million senior citizens from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100 turned out to be a significant benefit for the governing NDA administration as well.

NDA’s comprehensive welfare programs for women, which included initiatives for social security, livelihood assistance, and self-help organizations. Women voters who saw the NDA as a supporter of their goals and security were particularly receptive to the BJP’s nationwide outreach, as well as the Nitish Kumar administration’s initiatives to empower women.

2) Expanded Caste Coalition: The NDA was able to unite a segment of Dalits with forward castes, OBCs, and EBCs. This widespread popular backing helped them maintain their lead by mitigating the effect of the Opposition’s caste arithmetic.

3) ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ Nitish Kumar Factor: The opposition party was targeting Nitish Kumar, but he maintained a devoted support base that was founded on his track record of development, infrastructure enhancement, and inclusive administration. Voters who had previously doubted his intellect now perceived him as a seasoned and steady hand.

4) Election Planning: A carefully planned seat-sharing agreement, agreed upon far in advance of the election, was a major factor in the NDA’s resounding triumph in Bihar in 2025. The NDA made advancements in ground coordination, communication, and booth-level operations. Their partners’ collaboration helped the alliance maintain its organization and focus during the campaign, which was crucial to taking the lead.

5) The Fear of the Jungle Raj: The NDA promoted itself as the only way to prevent a recurrence of the Jungle Raj, appealing to the public’s desire for safety and progress. But the election showed that the voters gained confidence and support for steady governance in Bihar.
