As New Year began, on 1st January, the city woke up with unexpected rainfall and also gave relief from the poor air quality. As per the latest weather report, Mumbai’s air quality has been improved. The temperature was also low and the air was dry.

In January, when the city is usually dry and somewhat chilly, there was torrential rain in the early morning hours of Thursday. Many users on social media have shared photos and videos of the unexpected rainfall.

Around five in the morning, the downpour started as a drizzle. The rains caused significant reductions in visibility on the Coastal Road and Eastern Freeway, as per the media reports. The rains finally dwindled to a drizzle by daybreak.

The minimum temperature dropped to a low of 16°C as a result of the accompanying chilly winds, despite the limited rain, which only slightly dampened the streets.

The Meteorological Department reports that light to moderate rain has fallen throughout Mumbai and its surrounding suburbs as a result of increased moisture from the Arabian Sea and the impact of a western disturbance. In some areas of the city, there have been reports of sporadic rainfall. However, weather authorities have said that the weather will probably improve in the next several hours.

Although the showers brought some relief to the city’s pollution problem and improved the climate, the accompanying chilly winds gave the city a noticeable chill. Now, 2026 is starting with good air quality, hoping for clear and pleasant sky throughout the day.
