Commuters traveling by taxi and auto will have to pay more as the fares will rise by September 1, according to reports. The revised rates have been discussed and there will likely be a Rs. 1 to 2 hike. Let’s have a look at the changes likely to be made.

Auto and taxi fares in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) are set to increase next month. According to reports, under the revised rates, the minimum auto fare for the first 1.5 kilometers will increase by Rs. 1, rising from Rs. 26 to Rs. 27, while the minimum fare for the auto for per-kilometer rate for the subsequent distance will be Rs. 18. The taxi fare will increase by Rs. 2, from Rs. 31 to Rs. 33.

According to reports, officials said the revised prices will take effect on September 1 throughout Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan, Vasai-Virar and Panvel, noting that the timing also aligns with a scheduled fare adjustment in Pune.

However, the Auto Taxi Union and the MMRTA have not yet officially confirmed, according to reports. The most recent significant fare adjustment in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region occurred in February 2025.
