Mumbai Rain Is Back! But the Heat Isn’t Going Anywhere

After weeks of relentless sun and dry skies, Mumbai is finally getting a taste of rain again, though the city’s October heat isn’t ready to pack its bags.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts showers and thunderstorms starting Thursday, giving Mumbaikars a short break from the long dry spell. Light to moderate rain, along with occasional thunder, is expected to continue until October 20, bringing some relief and that refreshing monsoon smell we all love.

But don’t get too comfortable just yet. Daytime temperatures are still staying above 35°C, meaning it will remain hot and humid. Mumbai recently ranked as the second-warmest city in Maharashtra, just behind Ratnagiri, and the coming showers aren’t expected to lower the mercury significantly.

Even today, parts of the city experienced a light, unrecorded sprinkle enough to bring smiles and a brief respite, but not enough to cool the city down. It’s a classic Mumbai weather moment: rain and sun fighting for attention in the same sky.

For Mumbaikars stepping out this week, the advice is simple: keep both your umbrella and sunglasses handy. You might need both within the same hour as the weather continues its unpredictable dance.

Despite the late arrival of rainfall, Mumbai’s charm during the monsoon never fades. The city may still be sweating under the October sun, but the sight and smell of raindrops hitting the pavements bring a sense of relief and joy  a reminder that Mumbai’s weather always keeps life interesting.

So whether you’re rushing to work, enjoying a chai at a local stall, or just stepping out for a walk, expect a mix of sunshine and sudden showers. Mumbai’s weather is unpredictable, but it’s part of the city’s magic.
