MMRDA to Build New Thane-Bhiwandi 6 Lane Bridge; Travel Time to Reduce from 45 Minutes to 7 Minutes

MMRDA has issued a fresh tender for the Kolshet Kalher creek bridge. This bridge will connect Thane and Bhiwandi. The travel time will be reduced from 45 minutes to 5 or 7 minutes, as per the reports. A tender before it was canceled due to some technical issues. Under this new plan, the 6 lane bridge will be of two kilometers, which will cost around 430 crore rupees. The construction will finish in 3 years.

According to the officials, the design phase and the preliminary work will take more time. That is how the 3 years of work completion could extend. The bridge is a component of a larger project aimed at enhancing the connection to Bhiwandi, an industrial center that will also host a station along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train route. The Mumbai-Thane traffic is also increasing. Such connectivity could help to reduce the traffic and make travel more convenient.

Currently, people need to take a turn from Balkum Naka via the old Kasheli Bridge. The traffic on this road creates hustle and more inconvenience. After the bridge is built, the traffic will reduce, which is now causing a 2-hour drive.

Eastern Freeway Expansion: 

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has started construction on the Rs 2,682 crore elevated corridor from Chheda Nagar to Thane’s Anand Nagar, as an extension of the Eastern Freeway. The development authority has also proposed a plan to build an elevated road connecting Chheda Nagar in Ghatkopar to Thane’s Anand Nagar as part of this project.

A larger infrastructure plan intended to improve connections between the eastern suburbs and Thane includes the high route. It will provide a smooth connection between the boundaries of Thane city, Mulund, Nahur, and Chedda Nagar junction. The new projects that are now shaping the big cities will make the connectivity even stronger than before.
