Mumbai Weather: Unseasonal Showers Continue, Air Quality Improved
October has passed but yet Mumbai city is experiencing unseasonal showers and will continue for a few more days as the IMD has issued a yellow alert. The city could witness partly cloudy weather throughout the day, which will be light to moderate rainfall as it was in October. But now the city’s AQI, i.e. air quality index has improved after the last 2–3 months, it stood at 46.
According to the IMD’s latest weather forecast update, the temperatures in Mumbai are expected to remain moderate. It will be around 33°C and the minimum likely to dip to about 25°C. But the humidity will be present. The unseasonal showers have not cooled down the city but improved the air quality, which is a positive sign.
The Cleansing Effect of the Unseasonal Rains:
From September last week, Mumbai’s air quality has deteriorated, and the air has been filled with dust and pollution. Ahead of festivals, due to firecrackers, it also led to an increase in dust and smoke. Last month was challenging as the pollution levels were high, and the air quality stood between unhealthy and the dangerous category. The cleansing effect of the rain has helped wash away the dust and matter. Now the sky is better and much clearer and the visibility is good.
The IMD issued a yellow alert with light rainfall for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad until Wednesday. Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius. The Colaba was even colder at 27 degrees Celsius. The lowest day-time temperatures in November have consistently remained above the 30-degree mark.

Why Unseasonal Rains in November?
As the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon takes place, the city witnesses changes in the weather. Mumbai has been experiencing continuous spells of rainfall since the festivities commenced.
Weather experts had imputed the influx of unseasonal showers to a deep depression and also a trough running along the upper air cyclonic circulation system associated with the depression. That’s why this week the West Coast experienced a depression in the Arabian Sea.
