Mumbai: A case has been registered by Mahim police against newly elected Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator Milind Dattatraya Vaidya. In the recently concluded BMC elections, Vaidya won from Ward No. 182. He and his associates have been booked for allegedly taking out an unauthorised victory rally.
Under the Maharashtra Police Act, the Mumbai Police Commissioner had imposed prohibitory orders from January 12 to January 26, 2026, according to the FIR filed by Police Constable Pradeep Bhikan Mahajan. On January 16, Vaidya was served a notice under Section 37(3) of the Maharashtra Police Act and Section 168 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, directing him to maintain law and order.
The newly elected Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator Vaidya requests to hold a victory procession on January 17, 22 and 24 but citing the prevailing prohibitory orders Mahim police denied the permission for the procession. The FIR further alleges that on January 24, between 5.30 pm and 8.30 pm, Vaidya along with his supporters carried out an unauthorised rally through parts of Mahim West. During the rally loud music was played and firecrackers were burst.
Subsequently, Mahim police have booked Vaidya, several named associates, and 30 to 40 unidentified persons under relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for violating police orders, forming an unlawful assembly, and disturbing public order.
