Mumbai Monorail Coach Derails During Test Run; No Injuries Reported
A Mumbai Monorail coach derailed during a test run at the Wadala depot on Wednesday morning.
According to officials, the incident occurred around 9 a.m. when the train tilted during a signalling trial. No passengers were on board at the time, and no injuries were reported. Two crew members present in the monorail were safely rescued with the help of the fire brigade.
No official statement has yet been issued by the Maha Mumbai Metro Rail Operations Limited (MMMOCL). Preliminary information suggests that the train was undergoing signalling system trials when the derailment occurred, resulting in some damage to the coach.
Monorail services have been suspended since September 20 due to recurring technical issues and ongoing system upgradation work.
In the past, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had constituted committees to conduct detailed inquiries into repeated technical glitches that affected monorail operations.
