As restaurants include a gas levy on the customer bills, you may have some additional cash to spend if you visit a restaurant. Many videos and photos have become popular showing that, as a result of the LPG gas scarcity, consumers are charged an additional fee on their bills after they eat.

Increased costs associated with commercial LPG are being reflected in restaurants in a number of locations. According to reports, several businesses have reacted by including a separate ‘LPG surcharge’ on the last bill rather than changing menu prices. Screenshots of an ‘LPG crisis charge’ appearing on bills were shared by social media users over the weekend.

One photo is going viral. The photo shows a printed receipt from a Bengaluru cafe with an extra charge listed as ‘Gas Crisis Charge’. According to the post, the receipt is from a well-known cafe in Bengaluru and lists two mint lemonades, each costing Rs. 179, for a subtotal of Rs. 358. The bill includes regular GST taxes, such as CGST (2.5%) and SGST (2.5%), in addition to a 5% discount of Rs. 17.90.

But the item on the bill that grabbed everyone’s attention was the ‘Gas Crisis Charge,’ which tacked on an additional 5%, totaling Rs 17.01. After rounding off, the total payment due on the bill was Rs. 374.
