John Cusack Becomes 1st Hollywood Actor to Support CJP-led Protest Over the Alleged NEET Paper Leak

Hollywood actor John Cusack has voiced his support and joined the growing list of public figures and celebrities who have backed the ongoing student protest led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). Being the first Hollywood personality to do so, he took to his X timeline (formerly Twitter) to share an essay penned by Booker Prize-winning author Arundhati Roy. The actor reposted the article, expressing solidarity with the movement just days after the CJP’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ march allegedly witnessed police action in Delhi.

On Thursday, Cusack shared Roy’s essay titled Cockroach Democracy: Unarmed and Dangerous. The article criticised the alleged use of force against students marching towards Parliament during the CJP’s Chalo Sansad campaign. Along with the post, Cusack wrote, “Beautiful news from my favorite fellow cockroach.” His comment referred to the symbolic use of the term “cockroach” by members of the protest movement, which they adopted as part of their identity.

His tweet quickly garnered attention as he became one of the first international film personalities to publicly open up on the ongoing protests. Celebrities and students have been stepping out to protest against the educational system irregularities and the NEET paper leak. 

This is the second time Cusack has commented on issues concerning India. During the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in 2019, he voiced his support after police action against students of Jamia Millia Islamia University. His latest statement on the CJP protest has attracted the attention of an international audience to student-led movements in India.
