ITR filings due date ended on 31st July. As per the Income Tax Department, over 5.9 crore income tax returns have been filed by the taxpayers. As of July 31st, more than 5.9 crore income tax returns were submitted for AY 2026-27.
The ITR-3 and ITR-4 (Sugam) forms must be filed by 31 August and 31 October, respectively, for taxpayers. In contrast, over 7.3 crore returns were submitted for AY 2025-26 by September 16, 2025, which was the extended deadline for that assessment year.
Numerous small and medium taxpayers utilize Sahaj, also known as ITR-1, a simplified return form. Resident individuals with an annual income of up to Rs. 50 lakh from salary, one house property and agricultural income of up to Rs. 5,000 can file. Those filing ITR-1 and ITR-2 who are not required to audit their books had until July 31 to turn in their returns without paying any interest or late filing penalties.
