ISRO’s Bahubali Rocket Launches the Heaviest Communication Satellite Ever from India
On Sunday, November 2, 2025, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the advanced communication satellite GSAT-7R (CMS-03) into the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit. LVM3-M5 rocket, also called ‘Bahubali’ for its heavy-lift capacity, carried the 4,410 kg CMS-03. The rocket took off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, at 5:26 pm.
CMS-03 is a multi-band satellite set to replace the GSAT-7 series launched in 2013. It is expected to provide communication services over the Indian landmass and a vast oceanic region for 15 years. SRO Chairman V. Narayanan revealed that it is packed with new technologies and is a “shiny example of Atmanirbhar Bharat. He further praised the teams across multiple centers for successfully executing the complex mission despite challenging weather conditions.

Why ISRO’s Bahubali Rocket And CMS-03 Are a Significant Milestone?
According to Indian Navy officials, CMS-03 will serve as a powerful telecommunication tool, enhancing the Navy’s space-based communication and maritime awareness capabilities. Additionally, Lt Gen Anil K. Bhatt (retd), Director General of the Indian Space Association (ISpA), stated that this satellite will be a game changer for India’s national security. It will provide advanced and secure communication channels that are essential in the Indian Ocean Region.
Featuring advanced encryption, high-capacity transponders, and wide frequency coverage, the satellite will help improve situational awareness and support network-based naval operations. On the other hand, LVM3, i.e., the Bahubali Rocket, was constructed with completely indigenous technology, like the C25 cryogenic stage. ISRO’s mission, which includes the communication satellite and rocket, represents one of India’s greatest achievements and a significant milestone in science and technology.
