The US’s AST SpaceMobile’s BlueBird Block-2 communication satellite was successfully launched by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on Wednesday. The mission was declared a success after the satellite was successfully launched into orbit, reported by ANI.

The launch occurred at 8:55 am IST from the Satish Dhawan Space Station in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The mission aims to launch the next generation of communication satellites, which will deliver high-speed cellular broadband straight to smartphones all over the world. In the history of the LVM3 rocket, the BlueBird Block-2 would be the heaviest ever satellite launched into low Earth orbit.

Heaviest Satellite Ever:

In a major commercial achievement for India’s space program, ISRO successfully launched its heavy-lift LVM3-M6 ‘Bahubali’ rocket from Sriharikota, placing the US built BlueBird Block 2 communications satellite into its planned low Earth orbit. The ‘Bahubali’ is the name of the LVM3 rocket, which has the greatest payload of any ISRO LVM3 launch, weighing around 6,100 kg.

Successful Rocket Launch:

ISRO’s capacity to conduct large scale commercial launches for foreign satellites is proven by the mission. The rocket successfully separates its stages as planned and continues its precise ascent towards the targeted low Earth orbit.

LVM3 had previously launched ‘Chandrayaan 2’, ‘Chandrayaan 3’ and two OneWeb missions carrying 72 satellites. The previous launch of LVM3 was the LVM3-M5/CMS 03 mission, which was successfully carried out on November 2, 2025. The launch represents a major achievement for ISRO’s LVM3 program, demonstrating its dependability for high lift operations.
