IndiGo plans fleet expansion as the airline’s CEO announced the launch of 14 A321 XLR planes. IndiGo’s CEO, Willie Walsh, stated on Tuesday that the airline anticipates having 14 norrow body A321 XLR aircraft by the end of December 2027 as it looks to increase its international operations.

At present, the airline has four A321 XLRs, with one more being added by the end of the year. With their longer range, these aircraft will enable the airline to reach a greater number of international locations, reports PTI. Walsh further emphasized at a conference in the national capital that the airline would continue to concentrate on short-haul flights and that it had a very low cost base.

A350 Aircraft

He said that a lot of effort has to be put forth before commencing operations with the A350 aircraft. “We need to make sure that we don’t get distracted from the excitement of the induction of the A350 and take our eye off the ball in terms of the work that we need to continue to do on the short haul narrow body operation, which is very efficient today,” he said.

The airline anticipates receiving its A350-900 aircraft starting in the second quarter of 2028 after ceasing operations with its leased Boeing 787 wide body aircraft. He was speaking at the Aviation India and South Asia 2026 conference.
