The new hydrogen train has been approved for 75 kmph speed, as per the reports. Under the Northern Railway zone, the Ministry of Railways has given the green signal for the operation of the first 10 coach DEMU train in India, which is powered by hydrogen, between Jind and Sonipat at a top speed of 75 kmph.

Rather than being towed by a standalone engine, a Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) is a self propelled train whose carriages are propelled by integrated diesel generators, as per the reports. Here, instead of employing diesel or electricity powered traction, the train will utilize hydrogen fuel cells to create electricity.

It will use Distributed Power Rolling Stock (DPRS) technology, which distributes electricity throughout the train rather than in a single locomotive and has a total power output of 1,200 kilowatts.

Without a doubt, the advancement emphasizes the national transport’s steadfast dedication to greener transportation and decreasing carbon emissions. Instead of using diesel or overhead electric wires, a hydrogen train utilizes hydrogen fuel cells. The train’s motors are powered by hydrogen, which is converted into electricity by the fuel cells. The primary benefit is that it emits no dangerous substances; the only thing it produces is water vapor.
