Today, mobile phones are an important part of our life. Without them, it is impossible to communicate. Now, as per a report, India’s 5G subscriptions will exceed 1.1 billion by 2031.

According to the most recent Ericsson Mobility Report, which was published on Tuesday, India’s 5G subscriber base is anticipated to top 1.1 billion by the close of 2031, representing an 81 percent subscription penetration rate. The study emphasizes the country’s quick rate of 5G acceptance, which is being fueled by inexpensive 5G enabled cellphones, wider network access in almost all countries and the continuous implementation of 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services.

As per the research, India had 430 million 5G users as of the end of 2025, which made up 35% of all mobile subscriptions. The study predicts a steep drop in 4G usage over the next six years, even though it still accounts for 46% of the market share, reported by ANI.

During Q1 2026, 5G users reached 3.1 billion worldwide, surpassing the three billion milestone. By the end of 2031, Ericsson predicts that this number will rise to 6.4 billion.

By the end of 2025, 5G networks will handle 48 percent of all mobile data traffic, a figure that is expected to increase to 85 percent by the end of 2031, according to reports.
