India Secures 75th Position in Henley Passport Index, Visa-Free Travel to 56 Destinations
Good news for Indian passport holders, as now the Indian passport is ranked 75th in the Henley Passport Index, opening visa-free travel to 56 destinations. In 2026, India has risen ten places to 75th place, which is a notable gain from 85th place in 2025.
Based on the number of places that passport holders may enter without obtaining a visa in advance, the Henley Passport Index categorizes the world’s passports. Its position is determined by data from the International Air Transport Association. A lower position on the Index denotes greater access to nations that do not require a visa.
Singapore remained in first place with visa-free entry to 192 nations, while Japan and South Korea came in second with visa-free entry to 188 countries each, reported by TOI.
Although India’s passport performance has varied throughout the years, its ascension to 75th position indicates a favorable trend. The nation had previously fallen to 80th place in 2024 before falling further to 85th, indicating a time of diminished travel options, according to the media reports.
