IMD Warns of Intense Rainfall, Thunderstorms Across India till August 24
Widespread rainfall is expected over the next few days throughout much of India, and severe precipitation is predicted for multiple states. Additionally, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and hazardous sea conditions in certain areas.
From August 20 to 24, much of central and northern India, including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh, is expected to experience widespread rain.
Heavy downpours are forecast for portions of the western Himalayan and central regions, with particularly severe bursts possible in Himachal Pradesh from August 19 to 21 and in Uttarakhand from August 20 to 24. In central India, there may be gusty winds, thunderstorms, lightning, and isolated extremely heavy rain in Madhya Pradesh.
Heavy rain is also anticipated in Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Konkan till August 24. Small rainfall is possible in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and other southern Indian states. Lightning, gusty winds, and thunderstorms are also predicted in some locations, with winds blowing at up to 60 kmph in portions of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
