Galeries Lafayette Paris, located on Boulevard Haussmann, has a separate fanbase. It has a wide selection of fashion, gourmet food, and unique architecture, particularly the stunning Art Nouveau dome under one roof. Renowned for offering an array of products, restaurants, and cultural experiences, it is indeed a major landmark and shopping destination. One of the world’s most celebrated department stores finds a new home at the historic Turner Morrison and Voltas House buildings in Kala Ghoda, Mumbai. Galeries Lafayette India has opened its first flagship today, November 8.
In partnership with Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, the French luxury retail icon spans 90,000 sq. ft., featuring five levels. The launch is nothing short of a milestone, weaving 130 years of French fashion, art, and culture with Mumbai’s vibrant spirit of modern luxury.
A breathtaking store holding a global identity blends Parisian elegance with Mumbai’s colonial-era charm, landscape, and architectural heritage. It aims to bring together over 250 international designers and luxury brands across fashion, beauty, accessories, and contemporary streetwear. With private lounges, concierge services, and multiple curated programs, the place makes every visit a grand celebration of creativity, design, and culture.
Nicolas Houzé is the Executive Chairman of Galeries Lafayette Group. When he visited Mumbai earlier for a preview, he stated that opening their first store in the city of dreams is a defining moment for Galeries Lafayette. Moreover, it is the beginning of a new chapter in our international journey. He believes that values resonate pretty well with the renowned family-owned conglomerate, Aditya Birla Group. It not only gives the project a solid foundation but also allows the flagship to stand as a symbol of ambition, making the French Art of Living shine on the global stage.
India, as one of the fastest-growing major economies, is driven by increasing wealth creation and a shift in consumer tastes for premium and luxury products. The CEO Sathyajit Radhakrishnan, International Brands at Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited, stated, “India today is shaping a new global language of luxury – one defined by culture, confidence, and contemporary expression. The opening of Galeries Lafayette Mumbai at this moment feels especially fitting as the country stands at the intersection of global relevance and local renaissance.”
The store, designed by London-based Virgile and partners, has different themed zones, which are:
La Beauté: Right at the beginning stands La Beauté. It is a one-stop destination for vouching for all things skincare, fragrances, and cosmetics.
La Coupole: It is a dedicated world of handbags and accessories.
L’Atelier: It has a splendid curation of couture pieces.
L’Édition Femme: Situated on the second floor, it is a specially devoted space inviting modern women.
L’Édition Homme: At the third level, one can catch a glimpse of contemporary men’s style and Flip Side, spotlighting the best of streetwear.
With the best of Indian brands such as Chorus and Verandah, as well as international debuts of Patou, Marni, Coperni, La Prairie, and others, Galeries Lafayette India attracts Mumbai’s discerning, style-savvy consumers. “Galeries Lafayette Mumbai is designed to meet that mindset, offering a curated universe of fashion, beauty, and lifestyle that is as aspirational as it is personal; a space where discovery, emotion, and experience come together to redefine what retail means in India,” says CEO Sathyajit Radhakrishnan.
