According to the Election Commission on Wednesday, the 2026 assembly elections in West Bengal saw the highest voter turnout since independence, with a combined 92.47% of voters casting their ballots in two phases. According to the poll, the second and last round on Wednesday saw 91.66 percent turnout until 7:45 pm, while the first round had 93.19 percent.
According to People’s Pulse, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) will win Bengal with between 177 and 187 seats. According to the study, the BJP is predicted to win between 95 and 110 seats. Matrize and P-Marq predicted that the BJP would do better in Bengal. According to Matrize, the BJP received 146-161 seats, while the TMC received 125-140. According to P-Marq’s projections, the BJP would win 150-175 seats, while the TMC would win 118-138.
As a symbolic rematch of Nandigram, where Adhikari had defeated Mamata Banerjee in 2021 after switching from the TMC to the BJP, Banerjee, 71, who had been in office for 15 years and was seeking a fourth straight term, ran against Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.

The election has become much closer as a result of Suvendu Adhikari’s aggressive challenge, along with changing urban trends, while Mamata Banerjee still retains an advantage due to incumbency, personal connection and a strong support base, as highlighted by the reports.
The constituency saw over 87% of voters cast their ballots, a significant increase from the roughly 61% turnout in the 2021 assembly elections and 57% in the bypoll that saw Banerjee return to the House.
