Domestic airlines to gave 60% of flight seats without any additional charges. What does this exactly mean? Let’s understand in detail about the fares and how you can unveil this offer by booking the seats while traveling on domestic flights.

As per the DGCA, airlines in India will be offering at least 60 percent of the seats on the flights without levying any extra charge from April 20, as well as maintain a transparent seat allocation policy. When confirming our seats, we, as passengers and customers, always make an effort to comprehend any discounts and coupons that may be disclosed. Therefore, we must be aware of this modification by default.

In order to guarantee fair access for passengers, the Civil Aviation Ministry issued instructions to the DGCA on March 18, instructing airlines to set aside at least 60% of the seats on any flight for free selection. In this regard, the revised Air Transport Circular was published by the DGCA on March 20 and later, DGCA officials announced that the circular would take effect on April 20.

The circular, according to the DGCA, will take effect 30 days from its issuance date. Additionally, the action occurs in the context of increasing worries that airlines are charging exorbitant rates for a range of services, such as seat selection, according to media reports.

The Federation of Indian Airlines (FIA), which represents the three domestic airlines, had requested the Civil Aviation Ministry to take action to reverse the decision in a letter dated March 20. The airlines claim that the action would compel them to raise ticket costs in order to make up for the revenue they have lost.
