Delhi-NCR Sees 10th Consecutive Day of Satisfactory AQI with Light Rain and Cloudy Skies

Light winds and overcast skies prevailed throughout the region on Tuesday morning when citizens of Delhi-NCR awoke to lovely weather. From August 16, light to moderate rains are expected in the national capital and adjacent areas, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD predicts widespread rainfall throughout many parts of India, which is expected to experience another active period of monsoon weather starting on Tuesday. In the next few days, northwest, central, eastern, northeastern and western India are likely to experience anything from heavy to very heavy rainfall. Strong winds, lightning, and thunderstorms are also predicted for a number of states at this time.

For the first time since 2024, when the city also experienced satisfactory air quality throughout the first 10 days of the month, Delhi’s air quality was satisfactory on all 10 days of August of this year. At 4 pm the city’s 24 hour average air quality index (AQI) was 89, which is considered to be satisfactory by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Delhi has just experienced its wettest August day in two years. The Safdarjung observatory recorded 98.7 mm of rainfall over the 24 hours concluding at 8:30 am on Saturday. The city’s last recorded higher rainfall on an August day was on August 1, 2024, when 107.6 mm of rain was measured.

Several weather systems are causing the monsoon conditions to be active. The monsoon trough is still south of its typical location and a low-pressure region over north Madhya Pradesh and surrounding areas is still affecting rainfall in central and northwest India.
