CWG 2026: Sreeshankar, Sathyanathan Qualify for Long Jump Finals

On Monday, Lokesh Sathyanathan made it to the Commonwealth Games men’s long jump final on the strength of his top 12 finish, while M Sreeshankar did so by meeting the automatic qualifying criteria. Sreeshankar, who has a season’s high of 8.38 meters, leapt 8.01m here to directly qualify from Group A.

The qualifying criteria is either 8 meters or at least the top 12 athletes. After placing sixth fastest overall in the heats at the Commonwealth Games on Monday, Sajan Prakash, a two time Olympian, advanced to the men’s 200m butterfly final.

With a time of 1:58.59 seconds, the Indian placed second in Heat 2, behind Scotland’s Duncan Scott (1:58.29 seconds), qualifying for the eight man final scheduled for later tonight.

On Monday, national record holder Tejas Shirse qualified for the Commonwealth Games men’s 110m hurdles final with a timing of 13.76 seconds, making him the first Indian to do so. He placed sixth overall in the heats. With a timing of 13.20 seconds, Samuel Bennett of England, who is the overall leader, won Heat 1, with the 24 year old Shirse finishing third.
