The Chennai to Surat expressway will now end at Nashik after being curtailed to 900 km. The government has decided to reduce the scheduled six-lane Chennai to Surat National Highway under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, as per the reports.
The road will now run from Chennai to Nashik, instead of going all the way to Surat. Due to severe issues in acquiring land between Surat and Nashik, the shift was made, according to authorities.
The plan called for the expressway to be more than 1,200 kilometers long and connect Surat to Chennai. It was predicted that the project would cost about Rs. 50,000 crore. The road will be more than 300 kilometers shorter.
The plan was for the route to connect Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana and Tamil Nadu by passing through cities like Surat, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Solapur, Kalaburagi, Kurnool, Kadapa and Tirupati.

The revised plan calls for the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to construct a new greenfield expressway connecting Bharvir Khurd on the Samruddhi Expressway to Tawa village on the Mumbai to Ahmedabad highway (NH-48). The intended function of the prior Surat to Nashik section of the Chennai to Surat Expressway is anticipated to be nearly replicated by this new road.
The freeway project was initially divided into two sections. The authorities planned to construct a 513 kilometer bridge between Surat and Solapur, as well as an additional 707 kilometer bridge between Chennai and Solapur.
