BMC Elections 2026: BJP-Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) Reveal Official Seat-Sharing Numbers Through Their Alliance
BJP-Shiv Sena seat-sharing

A major update on the seat sharing has emerged ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections scheduled for January 2026. The BJP and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena have finally shared details and agreed on how the seat distribution will happen for their Mahayuti alliance. According to reports, they will jointly take 227 seats, and the bifurcation is now official.

Seat-Sharing Numbers Finalised

The BJP and Shiv Sena (Shinde) have secured 137 and 90 seats, respectively. The decision was taken after long discussions between senior BJP leaders and Eknath Shinde. Previously, reports stated that BJP wanted to contest more seats for the BMC elections in 2026, and the number that was going viral was 145. However, the negotiations finally helped both parties decide on who gets how many seats.

Furthermore, Shinde’s Shiv Sena and its leaders are quite content with the number of seats given to them. Earlier, they thought they would get only 80 seats. So securing 90 is a big feat for them. On the other hand, Ameet Satam, Mumbai’s BJP president, said that now that the seat sharing is announced, both the parties will campaign together for the upcoming elections. Satam also said that their smaller allies, like RPI (Ramdas Athawale), will also get a few seats within the BJP and SS shares. Aseem also clarified that there is no conflict among their alliance partners with regard to this seat-sharing arrangement.

On the other hand, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and Raj Thackeray’s MNS have also formed an alliance for the BMC elections. So it will be interesting to see what the political scenario in Mumbai looks like. To the unversed, the election will be held on January 15, 2026.
