Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced Rs. 5 lakh ex-gratia for the families of four people who lost their lives in the bhandup bus accident. On Monday, the BEST bus hit passengers, killing 4 people. 9 people were injured in the accident. There were a few other passengers who were standing in the queue, got alert and ran away immediately to a safer place. The injured were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The CCTV footage shows the terrible incident, the fear among passengers who were in shock after the bus got stuck on a footpath. The incident took place at 10.05 pm outside Bhandup railway station, according to the reports.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared a post on X. “The state government will provide financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh to the legal heirs of the deceased,” he said.  “Four people died in an unfortunate accident near Bhandup railway station in Mumbai is extremely tragic. I offer my heartfelt condolences to them. Nine people were injured in this incident and I pray to God for their speedy recovery,” the CM said in his post.

According to the police, the BEST bus driver lost control of the vehicle while making a U-turn in front of the Bhandup railway station and struck pedestrians on the sidewalk. The Kurla bus accident, which killed nine people, occurred a year prior to this incident.

BEST authorities have initiated an internal investigation into the matter and the driver has been suspended. BEST has announced financial help of Rs. 2 lakh for the relatives of the four people killed in the Bhandup bus incident.
