Bengaluru is experiencing relief from the heat as heavy rain and hailstorm lashed the city. The temperature drops to 18 degrees Celsius as per the reports. The streets of Bengaluru were littered with little pieces of white ice after a strong hailstorm hit the city on Wednesday evening, bringing much needed pre-monsoon rain in the midst of the intense summer heat, as highlighted by the reports.
The unexpected weather occurrence occurs in the middle of an extended period of higher than average temperatures throughout Karnataka. The weather in Bengaluru is normally mild, but this April has been warmer than average.
The situation has been worse statewide. According to media accounts, temperatures in the mid 40s Celsius have been recorded in various areas of northwest, central and northern Karnataka, with some districts reaching more than 46 degrees Celsius earlier this month.

As pre-monsoon activity increases, the hailstorm signals the start of a change in weather patterns, according to the India Meteorological Department. From April 29, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds in some areas of Karnataka, including Bangalore. Rainfall is predicted to occur over a period of three to four hours, with moderate to severe thundershowers expected to spread throughout the city.
