A viral post has sparked curiosity. An Air India passenger shared a puzzle which was printed on a cutlery wrapper served to him. The challenge, which was seen by a passenger at 35,000 feet, asks netizens to decipher a numerical code that reveals a name that is strongly linked to the airline’s history.

An X user, @RizGandotra shared the riddle on X, along with a photo of the wrapper and a challenge for social media users to figure out the code without using the internet. “A little brain teaser with my tea at 35,000 feet. Can you crack the code? No Googling! Nice touch, @airindia, Well done,” he wrote.

The following code is printed on the wrapper: 10 27 18 27 4 27 20-1-20-1. Although the sequence may seem bewildering at first glance, the answer is a simple substitution technique where each number stands for a letter of the alphabet. According to reports, the letters may be changed into numbers using the standard alphabetical order, which starts with A at 1, continues with B at 2 and so on until Z at 26.

A full stop is indicated by the number 27, which aids in separating the initials from the remainder of the same. The riddle, when decoded, points to J.R.D. Tata, the industrialist and aviation entrepreneur who was essential to the growth of commercial aviation in India.
