To make air travel more convenient, many constructive steps are being taken. Now, the civil aviation ministry said on Saturday that by next year, 27 additional airports will offer the DigiYatra service, which has cut the average time it takes for travellers to enter an airport, according to the reports.
Currently available at 38 airports, Digi Yatra allows travellers to move around airports without touching anything and without interruption by utilizing Facial Recognition Technology (FRT). In a statement, the ministry said that the DigiYatra app has allowed over 10 crore smooth journeys and has been downloaded over 2.4 crore times, reported by PTI.
According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the system has cut the average airport entry processing time from 15 seconds to 5 seconds per passenger by replacing manual document verification. This quick throughput has greatly improved terminal infrastructure, decreased terminal congestion and reduced manual processing costs, as highlighted by the reports.
Ram Mohan Naidu, the Minister for Civil Aviation, stated that over the past three years, domestic passenger traffic has often exceeded the 5 lakh threshold and that annual passenger traffic at Indian airports is anticipated to reach 50 crores by 2030 and increase to almost 100 crores by 2040.
