Veteran Malayalam Actress Savithri Sreedharan Passes Away at 85 After Battling Health Issues

On Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, the veteran Malayalam film and theatre actress breathed her last at her Kozhikode residence. She left for her heavenly abode at the age of 85 after suffering from age-related ailments for some time. Her mortal remains will be kept at the Town Hall today, from 3.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m., for the public to pay their respects.

Press Trust of India broke the news of her sad demise, quoting industry sources. She passed away at her residence in Kozhikode’s Mankavu. Her widely acclaimed career brought her several accolades, including the Kerala State Film Award for Best Character Actress in 2019 and a Special Mention at the National Film Awards.

Her theatre career spanned four decades. She was associated with popular theatre groups in Kozhikode, including Kalimga, Sangamam, Stage India, and Chiranthana Theatres. Moreover, she performed several powerful women characters across a thousand plays in her illustrious stage career.

Later, she moved to the professional stage. Renowned for her portrayal in Sudani from Nigeria, she continued to work in Malayalam cinema. Her film credits include Valiyangadi, Dakini, Mera Naam Shaji, Virus, Ittymaani: Made in China, Pada, and Paappan. Her absence will be deeply felt by fans and admirers worldwide.
